About HECS — Kentucky's NCI-Certified HVAC Testing Firm

HECS (Home Energy and Comfort Solutions) is Kentucky's most rigorous independent third-party testing, energy certification, and FORTIFIED evaluation practice. Founded in 2009 by John Sabbak, HECS has grown into a three-person team of NCI-certified field techs serving Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, and Missouri. Every project we touch is tested, documented, and reported by a tech who has no financial stake in the equipment sale — that independence is the entire premise of our business.

Our Four Core Service Practices

HECS delivers four integrated testing and certification practices, all under one contract with one project manager: HVAC Testing and Balancing (TAB) per ASHRAE 111 and NEBB standards; Blower Door and Duct Leakage Testing per ASTM E779 and RESNET 380; Energy Certification for ENERGY STAR, NGBS Green, EarthCraft, 45L tax credits, and Indoor airPLUS; and FORTIFIED Roof Evaluation per the IBHS FORTIFIED Home program. Each service can be delivered standalone or as part of an integrated audit-grade package for affordable housing, multifamily, K-12, healthcare, and commercial projects.

The HECS Difference

What sets HECS apart is independence. When a balancing report is signed by the same company that profits from the install, the report is a formality — not a measurement. HECS has no financial stake in any equipment, install, or certification program. We test what was installed, not what was designed. Every HECS field tech holds the NCI Certified Commercial Air Balancer credential. John Sabbak, our founder, is also an IBHS-trained FORTIFIED Home Evaluator. Our reports are read by code officials, tax credit syndicators, energy program administrators, IBHS certification reviewers, and courtroom experts. Every report has to hold up the first time it's read — and ours do.

Service Area

Based in Louisville, Kentucky, HECS serves clients across six states: Kentucky (Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Northern Kentucky), Indiana (Indianapolis, Evansville, New Albany, Fort Wayne), Ohio (Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton), Tennessee (Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, Chattanooga), Illinois (Chicago, Springfield, Champaign), and Missouri (St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield). Most projects are within a 4-hour drive of our office. For projects outside that radius, we travel — and the travel cost is quoted up front in the proposal, never as a surprise on the invoice.

Start Your Project with HECS

Engaging HECS is straightforward: call (859) 983-7382 or email hecs@hecsusa.com with your project type, building size, program of record, and rough-in or final inspection schedule. Most scoping calls take under an hour. Within 24 hours, you receive a fixed-fee proposal — not an estimate, not time-and-materials — with deliverables, schedule, and the credentials of the tech who will sign your report. To start a project, fill out the contact form or call (859) 983-7382 today.
